What an online theater for two is
Chitacle is a new format for live communication that resembles neither a café date, nor a messenger chat, nor a TV series. Two people meet over video, the same play opens on each of their screens, and they read it aloud by roles. An hour of playing together with voice, pauses, glances — and you have lived through someone else's story together.
Unlike a real theater there is no auditorium and no director. You can stop, ask again, laugh, replay a line. This is your theater for two — no rules, no stakes, no preparation.
This is an adult project: registration and participation from age 18. The plays' themes — relationships, crisis, passion, parting, meeting, farewell — everything that interests an adult.
How the meeting is arranged
In Chitacle you can meet in different ways. You choose the scenario that fits you right now:
- Find a random stranger right now. The system finds someone who also wants to read within a couple of minutes. Handy when you have free time in the evening.
- Schedule a day and time in advance. The system picks a random partner for that moment. Reminders arrive an hour and 5 minutes before the meeting.
- Join to listen. Someone reads a monoplay for you — with voice, addressing you directly. The reader is of the opposite sex.
- Invite a specific person. A friend, someone close, a colleague — via a personal link (opening soon).
You can invite viewers to your meeting (in every format except instant) — friends, family, colleagues. They join as observers and watch the reading without intervening. We built this into the project — inviting viewers is easy, through an email link.
How the meeting itself goes
- Step 1. Open the site in any browser — computer, tablet, or phone. No apps needed.
- Step 2. In the Dressing Room you choose how you want to read — with a random stranger, on schedule, as a listener, or with an invited friend.
- Step 3. The system picks the partner and the play. You don't pick the play — the system decides what gets assigned to the pair. That is part of the format: you don't know in advance what you'll read.
- Step 4. When a partner is found and the play is set — the stage opens. On screen you see your own camera, your partner's camera, and the play's text with line highlights. The card shows the play's title, length, number of lines, and genre.
- Step 5. You turn on camera and microphone — and start reading.
Camera and microphone are required in every meeting type — this is theater by voice and gaze, without them the point is lost.
What plays you might get
The Chitacle repertoire has more than 200 original plays — plays for two and monoplays for one. All plays are written within the project — freely distributed perpetually and worldwide, with no rights claims. The texts can be used for productions, readings, teaching. The only requirement — attribution to the author (Chitacle) and links to our resources.
Plays are not chosen manually — the system decides which play a pair gets in the current meeting. That is part of the format: you don't know in advance what you'll read. So every meeting is a discovery.
Play length: plays for two — 35–45 minutes, monoplays — 20–25 minutes. One meeting gets one play. But talking afterward — with no time limit, even until morning. That is the point: the play is the occasion, the conversation after is the main thing.
Liked a play and want the full text? Send the title to chitacle.online@gmail.com — we'll send you the file. You learn the title during your meeting in the theater.

Who the online theater for two is for
Chitacle isn't just "a dating app." It's a new category: a social immersive platform. So the audience is wider than it seems at first glance.
- Couples and friends. An unusual evening pastime — an hour of shared reading with the conversation continuing without a timer. After such a meeting there's plenty to talk about for a long time.
- Those looking for a mindful way to meet. Reading with a stranger reveals their emotional intelligence, taste, capacity for cooperation — the things a profile can't show. You judge not each other but the result: "How did we play it?"
- Playwrights and authors. Your plays for two and monoplays live in our repertoire. Every reading is a live performance of the text by ordinary people, without actor training. You see where the text works and where it doesn't.
- Theater schools and studios. A platform for practice between classes: sight reading, work with an unknown partner, online supervision of sessions. A closed group with its own repertoire is possible.
- Language schools and teachers. Reading plays with a partner removes the language barrier faster than an ordinary dialogue. Interface in five languages: Русский · English · Español · العربية · 中文. The play repertoire is being translated and continues to grow.
- Psychologists and therapists. Dramatherapy, work with social anxiety, developing empathy by living through "other" roles, strengthening pair relationships. A safe environment for the role.
- Communication and speech coaches. A skills workout: active listening, work with voice and intonation, emotional intelligence, overcoming barriers.
- Dating services. A ready format for a mindful first date instead of messengers — API integration and a partner program are possible.
- HR specialists. Evaluating employees' communication skills in a non-standard situation, testing language proficiency.
