Why couples need role-play exercises
In long relationships a couple accumulates fatigue from their own language. The same themes, the same complaints, the same jokes. Conversation about what matters becomes hard, because every word is already weighted with the history of what was between you.
A role-play exercise gives a new language. It's not you speaking — the characters speak. But through them you can say what in your own words sounds banal or hurtful.
How it works on Chitacle
The couple enters Chitacle in the "Read with a friend" mode — this is a private meeting by invitation link. One of you creates a session, sends the link to your partner. The stage opens. You read a play by roles.
You can choose the type of duologue:
- M/F a standard pair, you read "others."
- F/F or M/M an unusual configuration, frees you from familiar roles.
Which plays help
In Chitacle's collection there are many plays for two on themes relevant for couples:
- A meeting after a long separation.
- An argument about the road taken.
- A confession that was postponed.
- A chance interlocutor speaking out something important.
- Exes who saw each other after years.
After reading, a natural conversation often remains. Not "let's talk about our relationship," but "this line caught me because…"
What's important to remember
- This isn't a replacement for therapy. If there's a serious conflict — a specialist is needed.
- The emotion can be strong. Be ready to stop or take a break.
- The role is protection, not a mask. After the scene, be sure to exit the roles.
- Don't interpret the partner "through the character." These are different people.
