Contemporary plays that can be used freely are hard to find in open access — most modern texts are protected by copyright and require royalties. Chitacle has created a collection of 200+ original plays under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license — freely distributed perpetually, worldwide, with a single condition: attribution to the author (Chitacle) and links to our resources.
What "royalty-free" means in our case
Legally, every text has an author — copyright applies. In Chitacle's case, the author has permitted free use. All plays are written under the Chitacle brand and published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 (CC BY 4.0) license — the most permissive license among those that require attribution.
This means:
- Staging is allowed. On any stage, in any format.
- Adaptation is allowed. You can cut, change, or add lines and scenes.
- Use is allowed. In education, in psychotherapy, in amateur and professional theater.
- Commercial use is allowed. Sell tickets, include in paid programs.
- Free distribution perpetually and worldwide. No deadlines, no borders, no royalties, no contracts.
- The only requirement attribution to the author (Chitacle) and links to our resources.
Who Chitacle is for
- For schools and theater studios. Stage plays without legal red tape — no negotiations with rights holders, no royalty payments to collecting societies.
- For acting teachers. Material for class and partner training. Online supervision: the teacher joins the student's session as a viewer.
- For language teachers and learners. Reading a play with a partner breaks the language barrier. Interface in five languages: Русский · English · Español · العربية · 中文.
- For psychologists and drama therapists. Ready-made scenarios for drama therapy and role-play exercises. A supervising specialist can join the client's session as a viewer.
- For amateur and professional theaters. A large collection of original material, free to stage and adapt.

How to get the texts
You can read any play together on Chitacle — cold reading with a live partner, in a browser video meeting. You can also request a specific play as a file: write the title to chitacle.online@gmail.com — we'll send it.
You learn the play's title during your meeting in the theater.
You can invite viewers to the meeting — in all modes except instant matching. In scheduled meetings and in "Read with a friend" mode, the viewer joins via a personal link. The same works for online supervision: a teacher, psychologist, or coach joins as a viewer.
