A play for two is a special dramaturgical genre. Each character has equal stage life; conflict, passion, and comedy unfold directly between two people, with no intermediaries.

How to get a play

Chitacle has no open catalog of texts — plays are available through two paths:

• Read online with a partner. Head to the Dressing Room, choose a meeting mode, and the system will select a play for the pair. Once the play is assigned to the pair, its title, runtime, line count, and genre appear on screen.
• Get the text as a file by email. Write to chitacle.online@gmail.com with the play's title — we'll send you the file.

How a play for two differs from an ordinary play

An ordinary play is a dramatic work with any number of characters. A play for two is a dramatic form specifically for two actors who carry the whole story together, without episodic appearances or crowd scenes.

This format demands special craft from the author: two people have to hold the viewer's attention for 35–45 minutes. That's why in good plays for two the action is dense, the dialogues are charged, and between the characters there's a conflict or a passion — something alive.

A related format is the monoplay. One performer, one monologue. On Chitacle, monoplays are used in the "Read to me" mode: one person reads the text aloud, the other connects to listen. The reader is of the opposite sex, speaking directly to the listener.
