Why a psychologist needs the tool of partner reading
In the office the client tells you how they react. In partner reading you see how they actually react — to the partner, to a specific text, to a specific line. The shelter of the role removes social filtering: the client stops "playing the correct client" and manifests in the live dynamic.
This is like the difference between a survey and observation. A survey is always distorted by self-presentation. Observation in its natural form isn't.
Format 1: Therapist-viewer
The therapist invites two clients (or a client and their partner/friend) to Chitacle. The clients create a private room in the "Read with a friend" mode, and send the therapist a separate viewer link. The therapist connects, sees and hears the work, but doesn't intervene.
What this gives:
- A supervisory picture without distortion. The clients don't "play for the specialist" — they're in role, in the play.
- Strong material for the in-person session after. Not a retelling "he said — she answered," but a living picture.
- Safe for the clients. The viewer doesn't see the play's text — only the reactions.
- Without intervention. The therapist doesn't correct the process in real time — this reduces the risk of skewing the couple's work.
Format 2: Therapist-partner
The therapist takes one of the roles themselves and reads with the client. This is already active work: you can regulate the pace, guide the intonations, stop where "it hit." The play becomes a gentle tool for working with emotional themes through the shelter of the role.
Suitable for:
- Social anxiety — the client trains dialogue in a safe form.
- Working with avoidance — a play with a theme the client doesn't approach.
- Developing empathy through living through "uncomfortable" roles.
- Training spontaneity and working with freezing in live contact.
- Drama therapy and play-reading therapy in individual practice.
How to organize a session step by step
- Step 1. The therapist registers on Chitacle — the first meeting is on us.
- Step 2. Decides: therapist-viewer or therapist-partner.
- Step 3. If therapist-viewer — gives the clients a link to Chitacle, they create a private room in the "Read with a friend" mode and send the therapist a separate viewer link.
- Step 4. If therapist-partner — creates a private room themselves and sends a link to the client.
- Step 5. At the appointed time the curtain parts. The play opens simultaneously — no preparation.
- Step 6. After the play — an in-person or online session, already with living material.

We don't make clinical claims — we offer a tool in the hands of a practicing specialist. The decision on applicability in each case is up to the one working with the client.
