Why it's hard for a man to speak about loneliness
The social norm "a man doesn't complain" works against. To admit loneliness — means "to sign off on failure." Therefore men rarely discuss this topic even with close ones. They see a psychologist — usually for other reasons. And loneliness quietly grows.
By forty many wake up with an obvious reality: friends have gone into families, there's nobody to talk openly with. The wife, if there is one, is a different genre of conversation. And "male conversations about what matters" no longer arose.
What doesn't work for men
- Dating apps. They return you to the role of "active hunter," which not everyone has the strength to maintain.
