Monologues for reading — short original plays for a single performer. On Chitacle they work in the "Read to me" mode: one person reads, the other listens. The listener and performer are always of opposite sex. The monoplay is the most chamber format of the project.
Monoplay ≠ One-Man Show
This is an important distinction. A monoplay is a literary form: a short original text for a single character, 20–25 minutes. It can be read, played, staged, listened to. A one-man show is a large staged form: an hour and a half to two hours, with directing, set design, and a rehearsal period.
Chitacle's repertoire holds monoplays specifically, not one-man shows. We work with literature, not with productions. The format is created specifically for video call: no stage, no hall, for a single listener.
How "Read to me" works
In the Dressing Room, you create a request and choose your role: "Listen" or "Read." Chitacle looks for a partner of the opposite role and opposite sex: if you want to listen to a woman's monologue — a woman performer will be found; if you want to read a monologue to a man — a male listener will be found.
Only the performer sees the monoplay's text. The listener sees the video and hears the voice. That's what creates the intimacy of the format: one voice sounds for one listener.
